Sensitivity to everyday sounds:

چکیده

The autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) produces tingling sensations induced by sounds and accompanied positive emotions, whereas in misophonia, everyday provoke maladaptive behaviors negative emotions. People with autism spectrum disorders sometimes suffer hyperacusis. However, it is unknown whether the three types of auditory-related reactions are interdependent. We investigated ASMR, misophonia symptoms, autistic traits a non-clinical population (N = 552; 18-60 years) through self-reporting measures. 58 % young adults reported that they watched ASMR videos, only 12 participants over age 30 did so. prevalence previously Japan, was estimated at 54 %. Misophonia Questionnaire (MQ) scores increased advancing age. Scores were higher for females than males, although we not find gender difference sensitivity to ASMR. Factor analyses eight questionnaire subscales (n 180) demonstrated linked MQ scores, but Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ) sub-scores. close link between may be based on auditory processes underlying

How Long Does it Take to Identify Everyday Sounds?

Previous studies of alarm design have concluded that the faster a mental representation of the cause of the alarm is activated, the quicker the adapted reaction. In order to select sounds that are quick to identify , an experiment was carried out using a gated stimulus paradigm with 117 everyday sounds. Almost half of the sounds were identified in less than 150 ms, including both classical alar...

Perceptual Representations for Classification of Everyday Sounds

In the recognition and classification of sounds, extracting perceptually and biologically relevant features yields much better results than the standard low-level methods (e.g zero-crossings, roll-off, centroid, energy, etc.). Gamma-tone filters are biologically relevant, as they simulate the motion of the basilar membrane. The representation techniques that we propose in this paper make use of...

Everyday sounds: synthesis parameters and perceptual correlates

Environmental sounds present a difficult problem for sound modeling because spectral and temporal cues are tightly correlated. These sounds form classes that cannot be handled by traditional synthesis methods. Micro-level representations provide ways to control spectral and spatial cues in sound synthesis and meso-level representations determine the temporal structure of sound events. By constr...

Cortical sensitivity to periodicity of speech sounds.

Previous non-invasive brain research has reported auditory cortical sensitivity to periodicity as reflected by larger and more anterior responses to periodic than to aperiodic vowels. The current study investigated whether there is a lower fundamental frequency (F0) limit for this effect. Auditory evoked fields (AEFs) elicited by natural-sounding 400 ms periodic and aperiodic vowel stimuli were...

Free Classification of Vocal Imitations of Everyday Sounds

Þ Goal: Þ Analyze a free classification of vocal imitations of everyday sounds. Þ Highlight the acoustic properties of the imitated sound sources. Þ Motivations: Þ Vocal imitations are simple but still allow the recognition of the imitated sources. Þ They provide a paradigm for studying the acoustic invariants of the sounds. Þ Contributions: Þ Analysis of the individual strategies with the RV c...
